Eloyi is a South African spiritual sung in IsiXhosa, a language spoken by the Xhosa people from South Africa. The text of the spiritual is taken from biblical scripture when Jesus was hanging on the cross and he yelled in Aramaic; “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani”, which means; “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me.”
